Energy efficiency
One of key issues on people's minds today is energy efficiency, which can lower electricity costs and related CO2 emissions.
We have made several advances in addressing power consumption - advances that actually enhance the viewing experience. One example is greater use of innovations in our FlatTVs like dimming backlights, ambient light sensors and image processing intelligence that calculates where energy consumption can be reduced for every image displayed.
An immersive entertainment experience
Philips Ambilight FlatTVs project a soft glow of light onto the walls around the TV set that automatically changes to match the colors and brightness of the picture, creating an immersive entertainment experience.
EcoDesign
Of course our focus isn’t limited to television. Across our product range, we are uncompromisingly driving sustainability in all aspects of product creation through our EcoDesign process. We introduced EcoDesign back in 1994 to fully integrate design for the environment into the produce development and business creation process.
Our product designers know that considering issues like energy-saving and recyclability into consideration early on makes sense and saves costs. It’s only when you treat these things as an add-on later in the process that things can get expensive.
Offering sustainable choices
From simple innovations like packaging and easier disassembly for recycling, to rechargeable batteries that last 20% longer without charging, we are offering more sustainable choices.
Plus, we make those choices easier with the Philips Green logo, which identifies products that have a significantly better environmental performance than their competitors in one or more of our Green Focal Areas (Energy efficiency, Packaging, Hazardous substances, Weight, Recycling and disposal, and Lifetime reliability), resulting in a lower total environmental impact.
